ABSTRACT

AI fabricated sources and AI misinformation can trigger users’ perceptions of creepiness and increase their tendency to avoid AI chatbots. This issue is considered an unresolved service failure that has not been sufficiently addressed in prior research, leaving a gap for both theory and practice. Recognising the importance of AI avoidance behaviour, this study investigates how fabricated source types influence perceived creepiness and lead to avoidance of AI chatbots (ACs). We propose a novel conceptual framework to notice how differences between pseudo-common and pseudo-authoritative fabricated sources shape the roles of accuracy- nudge labels and brand credibility. The findings provide both theoretical and managerial contributions, outlining propositions for future research.
