ABSTRACT

The popularity of offshore observing activities offer businesses in the marine sector an opportunity to develop their activities. Beyond the economic value, consideration of environmental dimensions must not be neglected. In this regard, this article aims to describe the ecoresponsibility profile of participants according to their conservation intentions, level of environmental responsibility, motivations for purchasing the activity and level of previous participation in ecotourism activities. To achieve this objective, data were collected during 84 whale-watching cruises in Saguenay-St. Lawrence Marine Park, a national marine conservation era (Cananda). The questionnaire was divided in three parts: before (n=910), after (n=697) and one week following the whale-watching experience (n=553). The results highlight that participants present some ecoresponsible behaviors and attitudes. Understanding the tourism profile will help improve observation practices that limit environmental damage.
