ABSTRACT

Universities and companies' collaboration is increasingly perceived as essential to solving societal challenges. In this context, the universities are expected to play a more active and prominent role in collaboration and knowledge exchange. However, successful collaboration hinges on a mutual understanding of processes, collaborative methods, and potential challenges that must be addressed. This article delves into these aspects by describing and discussing three university-industry collaborative projects. The three collaborative projects demonstrate how universities, companies, and other stakeholders can collaborate on research projects to develop businesses and sustainable solutions. Based on the projects and literature, we provide a figure for UIC and discuss key elements in collaboration across sectors and the potential advantages and challenges.
